Independent · Free-to-play only

Chart a course through the best social games in orbit.

Fortune Road tests colony builders, space sims, tactics, puzzles and co-op crews — then ranks them on how they feel in week three, not in the first ten minutes. No gambling, no wagering, no real-money play anywhere on this station.

Four readings decide whether a social game is worth your evenings

Most portals score the tutorial. We score the point where a friendly onboarding either turns into a real hobby or into a countdown asking for your card.

Play without paying

How far you get before free progress stalls, and whether the interesting part of the game sits behind that wall.

Honest timers

Wait mechanics are fine. Manufactured anxiety is not. We flag games that punish you for logging off.

A crew worth joining

Active guilds, moderated chat, working report tools, staff who show up. Empty servers score badly however good the art is.

Clear data handling

Readable terms, sensible permissions, account deletion that works, parental controls that do what they claim.

Season chart

Top three this season

Scores combine tester hours, player surveys and a re-check every 30 days. The full nine sit on the rankings page.

Flight plan

Four steps, about six minutes

STEP 01

Pick a play style

Builder, tactician, puzzler or social farmer. The categories page sorts every platform by what you actually want to do.

STEP 02

Try the free arcade first

Three browser games run here with no account. A decent way to learn whether you want something calm or something twitchy.

STEP 03

Register on the platform's own site

We never collect your game credentials. You sign up directly with the platform, under their terms and their privacy policy.

STEP 04

Set your limits on day one

Session reminders and parental controls are easiest to configure before you are invested. The healthy play page walks through it.

What you will not find here

Fortune Road does not list, review, link to or accept advertising from gambling operators. That includes casino games, betting, slot machines, sweepstakes coin purchases and any product where an outcome of chance is exchanged for money or money's worth.

Despite the name, nothing on this site pays out. "Fortune Road" is the trade route our station sits on — every title here is a social game, played for progress, cosmetics, ranking and company. Nothing you win has cash value.

What changed recently

Platforms move. Scores move with them. Anything that shifts a ranking gets written up here.

Helios Outpost adds offline production

Refineries now keep running for twelve hours after you close the tab, removing most of the reason to leave the game open in the background. Reliability up 0.3.

Tethys Gardens ships a real spending cap

The monthly limit is per account rather than per device and survives a reinstall. Family score up 0.4, and it moves back into the top three.

Two platforms delisted

Two strategy titles began cross-promoting real-money products inside their lobby. Both were removed the same week. We do not warn platforms before delisting them.

Survey round four is open

410 players have told us how their platform treats them after ninety days. If you play a listed title, the survey takes four minutes and it moves the scores.

Start with something free

Three browser games, no account, no download, no cost. Like the calm ones and you will probably like our colony picks; like the fast one and start with arcade.

Launch free arcade

Home / Free arcade

Free arcade

Three original games running in your browser. No account, no download, no purchase. The stardust you collect stays in the bar at the top and exists purely for fun: it has no cash value and cannot be exchanged for anything.

Stardust is not money

It is a counter that lives only in the open tab. It cannot be bought, sold, traded or converted into anything. Close the page and it resets to zero.

Everything runs locally

All three games execute in your browser. No game data is sent to a server and no account is needed to play.

Family safe

No chat, no user-generated content, no purchases. These are the games we point to when someone wants to try the site with a child.

Home / Rankings

Platform rankings

Nine social game platforms, ordered by overall score. Last full sweep: August 2026. Each row lists the genre, the standout features and the kind of player it suits.

How to read the score. Scores run 0–10 across four areas: free progression (35%), community and moderation (25%), technical stability and support (20%), transparency on data and spending (20%). A score is not a guarantee — it is a summary of what we observed and what players reported.

Home / Categories

Categories

Six different ways to spend an hour. Pick the one that describes how you like to play — the rankings only make sense once you know what you are looking for.

Colony & farm sims

Build, grow, arrange. Slow pace, short sessions, little direct competition. The best category if you play ten minutes at a time.

  • Calm
  • Short sessions
  • Family

Strategy & tactics

Resource management, alliances, turn-based battles. Needs planning and some consistency, but it has the strongest communities.

  • Alliances
  • PvP
  • Long haul

Puzzle & logic

Levels, chains and brain-teasers. No daily attendance required: you resume exactly where you stopped.

  • Offline
  • No timers
  • Solo

Word & trivia

General knowledge, anagrams and weekly leaderboards. Good for playing with friends who do not usually game.

  • Multiplayer
  • Fast
  • Social

Co-op crews

Shared objectives, squads, seasonal events. Works best if you already have a group, or fancy joining an active guild.

  • Squads
  • Events
  • Moderated chat

Arcade & racing

Quick runs, reflexes, scores to beat. The shortest learning curve of the lot: you understand it in thirty seconds.

  • Reflexes
  • Quick runs
  • Leaderboards

Not sure where to start?

Short on time and want something that does not demand daily attendance? Look at puzzle and arcade. Want a game that lasts months and where you meet people? Strategy holds up best over time. Colony sims sit in the middle: light, but with a long progression.

Home / How we rank

How the rankings are built

A stated method is worth more than a high score. Here is exactly what we measure, how much each part counts, and what gets a platform delisted without appeal.

STAGE 01

Shortlist

We start from reader submissions and from what is visible in the stores. Every candidate must be playable for free and must carry no real-money gambling products.

STAGE 02

Field testing

Two testers each play at least twenty hours across three weeks, from a fresh account, spending nothing. We log every point where progress stalls or the game pushes a purchase.

STAGE 03

Technical checks

Performance on a mid-range phone, battery drain, behaviour on a slow connection, support response times, and the real account-deletion procedure.

STAGE 04

Player surveys

We collect ratings from people playing longer than ninety days. This is the part that most often contradicts our first impression, which is why it carries weight.

STAGE 05

Re-check every 30 days

Every platform is revisited at least monthly. If something material changes we adjust the score and write it up in the ship's log.

Score weighting

35%
Free progression: how far you get without spending, and where the curve stalls.
25%
Community and moderation: real activity, report tools, staff presence.
20%
Stability and support: crashes, load times, quality and speed of replies.
20%
Transparency: clarity on personal data, spending, odds and parental controls.

Immediate delisting

A platform leaves the rankings, without notice, if any one of these applies:

  • it hosts or promotes real-money gambling, betting or casino products;
  • it allows in-game items to be traded for real money;
  • it presents purchases deceptively or hides the true cost;
  • it offers no working way to delete an account;
  • it leaves chat open to minors with no moderation.

Delistings are announced publicly in the ship's log.

Independence and affiliate links

Some links to platforms are affiliate links: if you register through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is how the site pays for itself.

Commission does not affect scores or positions. No platform can pay to be listed, to move up, or to avoid a negative note, and we do not share ratings with platforms before publication.

Home / About

About Fortune Road

A small and openly enthusiastic crew: four people who have played social games for years and got tired of rankings written without opening the game.

Why this exists

Fortune Road started in 2023 from a fairly ordinary problem. We were looking for a decent colony builder to recommend to a relative, and every list we found online was a wall of sponsored links, often mixed with products that had nothing to do with social games at all.

So we kept our own spreadsheet. The spreadsheet became a site. The rule has not changed since day one: we only recommend games we would recommend to someone we know, and we say plainly what does not work.

How we work

Every review starts from a fresh account, with no advantages and no contact with the developer. We do not accept boosted accounts, early keys or press invitations that carry conditions about coverage. If a platform contacts us, that contact is recorded on the platform's entry.

We do not publish, review or accept advertising from gambling, betting or casino operators. That is not a commercial position — it is simply the scope of what we cover.

Home / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most, answered briefly. If yours is not here, the contact page genuinely works.

Are the games on this site really free?

Yes. The three arcade games run in your browser, need no account and contain no purchases at all. The platforms we review are free-to-play: free to play, with optional purchases for cosmetics or convenience in most cases. Each entry says how heavily those weigh.

Does "Fortune Road" mean gambling?

No. The name refers to the trade route the station sits on, not to winnings. We cover no casino, sports betting, slot machines or any product where money is at risk. We accept no advertising from that industry and we delist platforms that start promoting it.

What is the stardust counter at the top?

A simple arcade counter. It goes up while you play and exists only to make the runs a bit more fun. It cannot be purchased, sold, traded or exchanged, and it has no monetary value. Close the page and it resets to zero.

Do I need to install anything?

Not for our games — a current browser and a connection are enough. Many ranked platforms also run in a browser; others have a dedicated app. The "Devices" line on each entry says which.

Are the games suitable for children?

The three arcade games have no chat, no user-generated content and no purchases, so they are fine for younger players. For external platforms the developer's own age rating applies, usually 13+. The healthy play page explains how to set parental controls before starting.

How do you make money?

Through affiliate links to some platforms. If you register via our links we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions do not affect scores or positions — the method is published on the "How we rank" page.

Can I suggest a game to review?

Yes, and people often do. Send the name and a link from the contact page. We review submissions monthly, and if a title fits our criteria it goes into the next testing cycle.

How is my data handled?

We collect the minimum: what you type into a form, plus aggregate traffic statistics if you accept analytics cookies. We do not sell data and we never ask for your game account credentials. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Home / Healthy play

Healthy play and safety

Social games carry no cash prizes, but they are still designed to bring you back. Here is how to stay in control of that, and how to look after younger players.

First, the important bit: you will find no casino, betting, slot machines or real-money games on Fortune Road. If you are looking for help with gambling specifically, contact the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 (UK, free and confidential, 24 hours) or speak to your GP. In the US, the National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-522-4700.

Five habits that work

  • Decide the length before you start. A phone timer beats any good intention formed mid-session.
  • Turn off push notifications. They are the main tool a game uses to decide when you think about it. Removing them is the single most effective change.
  • Set a spending cap. Configure it on day one where the platform allows it. Otherwise, remove the saved payment method from the store.
  • Take real breaks. Every fifty minutes, stand up and look at something far away for a minute. Good for the eyes, good for the head.
  • Notice when it stops being fun. If you open the game out of duty, to protect a streak or to avoid letting a guild down, it is time to cut back.

Signals worth watching

A social game becomes a problem long before it becomes an expense. The signals players report most often in our surveys are: delaying sleep to finish an event, feeling anxious when unable to log in, hiding how much time is spent playing, spending to catch up after falling behind, and losing interest in things that used to appeal.

If more than one of those sounds familiar, in yourself or someone close to you, talking to somebody is more useful than any setting.

For parents

  1. Turn on the operating system's parental controls, not just the game's — they cover time, purchases and downloads in one place.
  2. Remove saved payment methods, or require a password for every purchase.
  3. Check whether the game has chat and, if so, whether it can be disabled or limited to friends.
  4. Agree a schedule together rather than imposing one. Everything families tell us says it works considerably better.
  5. Play it with them at least once. Understanding what the game does beats reading its description.

Protecting the account

Use a different password for every platform and turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered. Be suspicious of anyone offering items, currency or advantages in exchange for credentials: no legitimate service asks for a password, and no moderator will ever message you privately to get one. Fortune Road will never ask for your game logins.

Where to find support

For gaming-related distress specifically, the UK's National Centre for Gaming Disorders takes referrals for people aged 13 and over. For general mental health, Samaritans can be reached free on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland at any hour. In the US and Canada, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available by call or text. Elsewhere, your doctor can point you to local services.

2. What the service is

The Site publishes editorial content, reviews, comparisons and rankings covering free-to-play social game platforms, and provides a small number of free browser games for entertainment. The Site does not offer, host or promote games played for money, betting, casino products, sweepstakes or prize draws of any kind.

4. Free games and stardust

The games in the "Free arcade" section are free, run entirely in your browser and require no registration. The "stardust" shown while playing is a purely decorative counter: it has no monetary value, cannot be bought, transferred, traded or exchanged for money, goods or services, and does not constitute a currency, prize or reward of any kind. The counter is not retained after the page is closed.

What we collect

  • Information you give us: name, email address, topic and message content when you use the contact form; name and email if you register a Site account.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and referring source, collected in aggregate through analytics — only if you consent to analytics cookies.
  • Game data: none. The arcade games run entirely in your browser and send no scores, stardust or other information to our servers.

Why we process it, and on what basis

  • To answer your enquiries — consent, and steps taken at your request.
  • To operate a Site account where you create one — performance of a contract.
  • To understand how the Site is used and improve it — consent to analytics cookies.
  • To keep the Site secure and prevent abuse — legitimate interests.

How long we keep it

Contact form messages are kept for 24 months after the enquiry closes. Aggregate analytics data is kept for 14 months. Account data is deleted within 30 days of a closure request.

Who we share it with

Technical suppliers that let us run the service: hosting, email and web analytics. They act as processors under contract. We do not sell personal data and we do not pass it to third parties for marketing.

Where a supplier processes data outside the UK or EEA, the transfer relies on an adequacy decision or on standard contractual clauses.

Affiliate links

When you follow a link to an external platform, that partner may record the source of the visit through its own identifier or cookie. From that point its privacy policy applies, not ours. We receive only aggregate figures on sign-ups, with nothing that identifies you.

You may request access to your data, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability at any time, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. Write to privacy@fortuneroad.space and we will respond within 30 days.

If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or to the supervisory authority in your country of residence.

Children

The Site is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The Site is served over an encrypted connection. We apply technical and organisational measures proportionate to the risk, and limit access to data to staff who need it.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your device to make it work correctly or to gather information about how it is used. Some are essential; others need your consent.

Cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These keep the basics working: remembering your cookie choice, maintaining a session if you have signed in, and securing requests. They need no consent and cannot be switched off in the panel. Lifetime: up to 12 months.

Analytics

These tell us how many people visit, where they arrive from and which pages they read, in aggregate. They help us judge what is useful. They are only set if you accept them, and you can change your mind at any time. Lifetime: up to 14 months.

Third-party cookies

The Site carries no advertising and uses no advertising profiling cookies. When you follow an affiliate link to an external platform, that site may set its own cookies, in which case its policy applies.

Managing your preferences

You can change your choice at any time with the button below. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings — note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.

Games and local storage

The arcade games set no cookies and store nothing on your device. Scores and stardust live in the memory of the open tab and are lost when it closes.

Cookie preferences

We use strictly necessary cookies to run the site and, only with your consent, analytics cookies to see which pages are useful. No advertising, no profiling. Detail in the cookie policy.
